    Description

Up for bid is a photo of a round bank vault door during a phase of production probably by the manufacturer where it was made. There are 24 bolts.
The 127-year-old photo is only 3 7/8 x 3 1/8. Photo was scanned at 600 dpi. Best my printer would do. The photo has very good resolution as you can see. On the time lock case with magnifying glass you can see the diamond pattern. It appears it’s a YALE Quad-N 4 movement Time Lock with automatic bolt motor. So, I believe this style of vault didn’t have the combination locks. It only opened automatically when 1 of the 4 time locks ran down to zero.
From little info on the internet I think this date to 1895 or so.  John Erroll’s “The American Genius” shows a similar bank vault time lock set up circa 1890s page 277.
One of a kind photograph.  You can see some windows in the back ground above the man’s left shoulder that looks like this was taken in a factory. The large canvass behind the safe vault door didn’t completely cover the background opening. I Wonder if the man was head of the factory or was the main engineer designer of this vault door.
The backside of photo has remnants like this was in a photo album. NO signs on front of picture that any adhesive seeped through. It may also have originally been on a cabinet card photo.
I scanned 2 pictures. One is color and one in black and white.
I also included a few pics from my iPhone. The finish of photo is Matte. A neutral sheen.
Please see pics as these are most of my description.
