This
1950's era
Solingen Bowie
comes with the
matching COMPASS  WESTERN  GERMANY  Leather Sheath.
The knives of
Solingen Germany
are known worldwide for their fine knife materials and attention to detail, and
this knife is no exception!
The
thick stag handle
and M
irror-like thick blade
are
fine examples of a
quality-made German knife,
from former days.
One beautiful & rare vintage bone handle / thick blade German knife...that will be great for hunting game, or a welcomed addition for the avid knife collector.
HISTORY
:  This Solingen knife was most likely manufactured in the 1950's.  We know after 1945 WW II Germany was divided into two sectors, the East and West, so many products were stamped West or
Western Germany
to show the difference between the Democratic made products and the Communist made products.

HANDLE:
This beautiful vintage knife has a
real antler / bone handle
with
natural dark grooves & raised patterns.
Each end of the stag handle has intact and secure composite spacers.  The easy to grip bone handle features
rich natural color tones
and
some light natural signs of aging.
T
here is a tight
1  1/8" long brass finger guard
and
shiny
aluminum oval pommel that has a tight 3/8" brass tang nut.
This
authentic bone handle
has
N
o looseness
and the
antique handle displays light signs of
natural beauty
as seen with aging bone. The handle feels
very secure
when held in your hand and there are
No chips or cracks.

BLADE:
The
H
eavy-Duty fixed blade is mirror-like
and the surface is smooth to the touch.  It has some light surface scratches and/or surface honing marks. There are
No blade edge nicks,
and it is in
Very Good condition
when  considering the knife's age.
The wide blade spine is in great shape on this handsome Solingen hunting knife. There are a few normal light surface age specks on this
bright German steel 5  1/8" inch long blade.
I believe the
clip-point blade
is
full
and the knife has a
pointed tip,
also there are
No blade edge nicks.
This
heavy duty hunting/skinning blade
is
straight
and measures
approx.
3/16"  thick.
There is a long
false top edge,
that could be sharpened if desired.
This decades old German stag / bone Bowie...feels well balanced, heavy and secure, when held in your hand.
SHEATH:
The
o
riginal
matching
COMPASS Factory
leather sheath
(or case) is included.  This
rough-back leather case
has shiny and
secure metal rivets,
and
stiff throat area,
plus an
intact belt slot area
.
The
working snap strap
and the excellent
metal tip protecto
r are in V
ery Good condition.
This companion
9  3/4"
inch long German sheath shows some light wear and handling, normal for being decade old..
The belt slot area is stamped:

The sheath is factory stamped on the front:
COMPASS
along with a "
full image of a buck or elk, standing in
foliage."
This Compass leather sheath fits the Solingen Germany knife very well and offers ease of carrying in the field.
Definitely a knife that shows quality
and vintage appeal....with that original “
patina of time"
appearance not yet achieved with newer knives.
