DESCRIPTION:
Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely untouched, 'as-is,' 'as-found,' antique
German 'Minerva' Victorian full-figure doll,
with hand-painted brass head and home-made stitched & stuffed linen body, with torso, arms and legs. The doll's head once featured inserted glass eyes, which are still presumably inside of the hollow head, since something (one or two objects) can be heard rolling around inside. No attempt has been made to redress or 'in-paint' the paint loss on the face. This is an imported German doll nearly 120-140 years old and was clearly used and used often by its young American female owners. The pink, ocher and sepia colored linen of the stuffed body is soiled in places. The doll hasn't been touched and wasn't cleaned or even dusted. It's estate fresh and was found here in southern New Hampshire. The stuffed body is by and large intact and doesn't suffer from any loss of limbs or material. There are a few small holes, tears and old repairs to the stuffed linen body and what appear to be sewn repairs to the doll's knees. A great antique doll with a slightly unnerving, spooky, steampunk, eerie presence. If you're not afraid of antique clowns or old dolls then this
German Minerva
19th century antique brass headed doll might look awfully good placed next to your collection of early and primitive antiques. Authentic and 100% original. Terrific.
