    Description

Offered for your consideration is a great-looking vintage 5" carbon steel sheepskinner knife.  This is a highly versatile pattern that actually saw lots of use as a general purpose "belt knife" or outdoorsman's knife in the first half of the 1900's.  In fact, the 1991 Knives Annual did an in-depth feature story on the all-around virtues of this classic pattern.  It's one of the best all-purpose patterns to be had.  This example likely dates to the or early 1930's or so. The fine carbon steel will quickly take a wicked edge that's easy to maintain.
The knife has seen moderate use and remains very solid with no problems and lots of life left. It has not been cleaned or buffed and remains original.
This is a premium-quality knife that was very solidly made.  It's been well cared for over the years and remains very sturdy with many decades of service left.  The thick carbon steel blade is free of any significant corrosion or pitting with just a couple scattered small spots of the usual fine surface peppering as shown. The spine is free of any dings, dents, marring, or damage.  The blade has been lightly sharpened and it's free of any errant grinder marks or harsh sharpening abrasions. The edge is free of any cracks, chips, or damage and remains very nice with just a small, shallow at about center blade as shown. This is very minor and can be resolved with a fresh edge. Otherwise, the edge shows just some normal light wear.  It remains somewhat sharp and the knife is ready for immediate use, although a quick touch-up would have it razor sharp in no time.  The sturdy blade has a slow taper and offers no flex at all.  It displays a great natural carbon patina that's even on both sides.  The handle is of thick, solid hardwood, possibly oak or beech.  The handle remains rock-solid with no looseness at all.  It was tightly pinned and it's free of any dishwasher exposure damage with just a bit of normal sink washing water exposure as shown.  The handle offers a firm, comfortable grip with a warm, rich, silky-smooth feel in the hand.  The wood is free of any chips, gouges, marring, or damage with just a a bit of normal light wear as shown.
The knife measures just over 10-1/2" in overall length.
This knife would make a great belt knife for the fur trapper/mountain man and/or rendezvous crowd.
A very solid, premium-quality example of this classic pattern!!
