    For auction is a LOT of 2 ink blotters from Hamburg Broom Works, Hamburg, Pennsylvania. They date to the early-mid 1950s. Hamburg Broom Works was established in 1894 and still manufactures brooms and other cleaning aids and materials. Prior to the invention of ball-point pens, blotters were very popular and necessary to dry ink on papers. Many firms like Hamburg distributed blotters as advertising items. Each blotter measures appx 8 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches and is made of medium-weight cardstock; the back side is typical textured paper to absorb ink. There is no writing, markings, rips or tears, and they have not been used for blotting so the back side is clear of any such marking. The blotters do show some time-related wear, especially on the edges, as can be seen on the scans.
