    Description

    ITEM
    :
Up for sale is this piece of vintage advertising ephemera called an INK BLOTTER. This one advertises the Hotel Governor Clinton in New York City. Good shape, not used, measures about 6 by 3 1/4 inches.
The building, designed by the architectural firms George B. Post & Sons and Murgatroyd & Ogden,  was opened in 1929 with the original name of Governor Clinton Hotel. The name was a reference to George Clinton (1739-1812), the first governor of the state of New York (1777-1795 and 1801-1804).
The New York Times of August 18, 1929 included a full-page advertisement, announcing the hotel's opening. The inaugural banquet was attended by then-Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt , former Governor Al Smith, and New York Mayor Jimmy Walker.
In 1967 the building was transformed into residential apartments under the name Penn Gardens, and in 1974 it was renamed Southgate Towers. It reverted to a hotel in 2004 as the Affinia Manhattan Hotel , and in 2016 it changed its name again, reigning itself as the Stewart Hotel.
