Description
Offered for your consideration is a very nice vintage W.H. & W.M. Boos 10" carbon steel butcher knife. Boos was founded in 1866 in Toledo, Ohio and remained in business until 1936. This is a large, well-made, heavy-duty knife that would also make for a great camp knife. The knife has seen light use and it remains in very nice condition with no problems at all. It has not been polished or buffed and remains original.
The knife was beautifully crafted and it has a great look all the way around. It's just as at home around the camp, cabin, or in the woods as it is in the kitchen, and the large, heavy blade on this model makes it well-suited for use as a large belt knife/camp knife. The sturdy carbon steel blade has a long, crisp swedge on the front side and it's free of any significant corrosion or pitting with just some scattered small spots of the usual fine surface peppering as shown. The blade is free of any errant grinder marks or harsh sharpening abrasions with just some fine, hairline sharpening abrasions as shown. The surfaces display a natural carbon patina and the etched markings mostly visible with nice contrast against the finish. The edge remains very nice with no chips, dings, cracks, or damage and just a bit of normal wear. It remains fairly sharp and the knife is ready for immediate use, although a few strokes on a good stone or hone would quickly have it razor sharp. The tip is intact and original with no blunting, burrs, or bending. The spine is free of the dings, dents, marring, and damage frequently seen on large knives that tend to occasionally get used as impromptu hammer or pounding implements. The thick hardwood handle remains exceptionally nice on this knife. It's rock-solid and completely tight with no stains or discoloration. The wood is completely free of the dishwasher fade/bleaching that's so common to wood handles with no water exposure damage from normal sink washing either. The wood remains dark and rich with a warm, silky-smooth feel in the hand. The thick scales were tightly pinned with the top and bottom edges deeply beveled. The handle is free of any cracks, chips gouges, marring, or damage with just some normal light wear as shown.
The knife measures 15-1/2" in overall length.
A great-looking, original example of this classic Boos carbon steel butcher knife!!
