    Description

This is a very old bowie knife made in Sheffield just before the Civil War in the 1850's.  Marked WILLIAM RODGERS CELEBRATED DIRK KNIFE and has the VR warrant for Queen Victoria.  This company was in business from about 1830 to 1855.  Later on, that name was brought back by another company but this knife is an early period piece. Knife measures 11.75" long with the blade being 7".  Thin silver elliptical guard.  Handle is the classic "cutlery handle" that was popular in this early period being thin silver that's molded and filled with cutler's rosin.  Blade is pretty full but has some areas of pitting, dark spots and a couple scuffs.  Handle is very nice with no dents or other damage.  The blue pasteboard sheath MAY be original to the knife but I'm not certain. It does have a replaced silver throat and is missing the tip.  Makes a great set. Guaranteed to please the new owner or I'll buy it back. Check my Feedback.
