Description

This listing is for one surplus British Gurkha Kukri measuring 17".  It is marked DD-64 with a Broad arrow stamp.  It shows no signs of use or post manufacture sharpening.  Online research shows DD-64 indicates manufacture at the Dehradun India plant in 1964.  Further research indicates the Dehradun plant (Windlass Steelcraft) is the main supplier of knives to the Gurkha military units since 1943.  We are selling this item for a 93 years young lady we have helped move to assisted living.  She states these kukris were inventory in her and her husband's security/gun store in Tucson, AZ which they closed in 1969.  They have been stored since.  She was able to locate the purchase of these knives in her accounting books which showed the order of 10 units in 1968 for the whopping price of .50 plus shipping.  The supplier was listed as Steen Armament (or possibly armory).  She believes they were shipped as the one in the plastic wrapper without sheaths.  There were 3 in storage and she believes the other 7 were sold.  She stated the .95 price tag sounded "about right".  This listing is for the middle kukri without the price tag.  The lower kukri has sold and the upper may be sold at a later date with her approval.  Thanks for looking!
Note*  A fellow ebayer has added the following information.  He states he and his friends ordered 12 bolos identical to these from Steen Armament around 1970.  He believes they were listed as surplus in an ad in Shotgun News for around .00 each if more than 10 were ordered.  They were ordered to use for pig hunting and he wishes he had taken better care of his after seeing the current value.  He states that Steen Armament also advertised under the name of SARCO.
