to commemorate the great American fighting knives of the Antebellum Era—

. Today these iconic knives are prized possessions in the some of the world’s most prestigious edged masterpiece collections.
To ensure the historic character and legacy quality of the Collection’s edged masterpieces, KodiaK Knifeworks assembled a team of some of the best blademasters in the country. The
KodiaK Collection
was handcrafted in the U.S.A. over a period of ten years, c. 1980s, by now-legendary, American Blademasters, including Jim Ferguson, Douglas “Tat” Brack, Brian Forrest—and a support complement of illustrious custom knife-making advisors that included Bob Engnath, Joe Musso, Bill Herndon, and Jody Samson.
Under special commission from
KodiaK,
renowned Blademaster Jim Ferguson custom forged the 60 special Damascus Steel billets required to create the
KodiaK
edged masterpieces -- and they were forged to demanding specifications that exceed aerospace standards. Using traditional American knife-making processes—fire, hammer, and anvil—four or more of the finest-quality stainless and carbon tool steels and nickel alloys were fused in the crucible and hammered on the anvil to produce one-of-a-kind,
24” long, 4” wide, ½” thick, 600-layer,
Twisted Nickel Damascus Steel
billets—the tough and durable steel that is the distinctive hallmark and soul of a
KodiaK
edged masterpiece.
Blademasters Doug “Tat” Brack and Brian Forrest cut, ground, heat-treated, tempered, and polished the blades to exact, blueprint and hardness/tensile (58-60 level on the Rockwell Scale) specifications. Blademasters Brack and Ferguson handcrafted and affixed the precious and delicate Prehistoric Mammoth handles, Quillons, Butt Caps, and Talons.
Both Lone Star Bowies were handcrafted from Jim Ferguson’s custom, 600-layer,
Twisted Nickel Damascus Steel —
a Damascus steel widely recognized as the industry’s gold standard. Mr. Ferguson’s exquisite, edged masterpieces have been featured in numerous magazine articles, national knife shows, motion pictures (
Pirates of the Caribbean),
and they are prized possessions in some of the most exclusive knife collections in the world. Mr. Ferguson is now retired, but he leaves behind a legacy of historic importance—an extraordinary body of work that places him in the exclusive company of the immortal, American blademasters who significantly advanced the art, science, and craftsmanship of handcrafted edged masterpieces, while mentoring and inspiring countless knifemakers who now follow in his footsteps.
The
Lone Star Bowie Knives
are one-of-a-kind, heroically-sized noble renderings of a relic of bygone, American frontier days. They are executed in superlative,
Twisted Nickel Damascus Steel,
with prehistoric, stabilized Mammoth handles. The knives feature the traditionally flared, clipped, and heavy blades of the classic Bowie Knife, lugged, fighter quillons, and natural, tusk-shaped handles. The blades and their matching Damascus Steel collars, quillons, and pommels for each knife were meticulously sculpted and hand-tooled from a singular Damascus Steel billet to ensure the knife’s integral provenance and character.
The aesthetic beauty of the Lonestar Bowies belies the toughness of their Twisted Nickel Damascus Steel foundation. The blade is hardened to a 58-60 level on the Rockwell Scale, and its edge is hand-honed to a sharp and resilient razor’s edge. Its unique stainless and carbon tool steel and nickel composition holds a superior edge, wears well under normal, utility use, and resists corrosion. The ergonomic, traditional handle is fashioned from the finest, stabilized,  gem-quality Mammoth, and handcrafted to ergonomic shape while keeping the character of its natural origin. Spacers are made of bright, vulcanized composite materials for both aesthetic and durability purposes.
The Lone Star Bowies are simply unique edged masterpieces nonpareil—treasures of Antebellum historical provenance to be preserved for generations.
