ADDITIONAL INFO: According to “Goins’ Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings” Anton Wingen Jr. started making Knives circa 1875 and continued at least until the time Goins book was published which was 1998. To the best of my knowledge they are still in business. This company made it a lot contract Knives for American companies. The design and composition of this Knife is very similar to many that I have seen which were exported to the US after the end of World War II when Germany began rebuilding. It seems some of the Cutlery Companies that had escaped direct bombing at the end of World War II were able to recover quickly and begin production. Some GIs who had served in Germany started companies importing German knives to the US. I believe this knife was probably made in that era. Some contemporary schools of thought say this Othello Knife company as well as others such as the Guttman Cutlery Company were responsible for importing a Large Amount of Knives With American soldiers returning home after WW11, making full use of the unused metal left over from the War. It is said Puma and Linder got their start with this repurposed German and American Steel, Turning It Into Knives With American Soldiers, Doing the Lion Share of the Actual Importing, As They Were Stateside Bound, Returning To The Great United States of America. Forever Changing the Playing Field When it Comes To Quality In The Knife World. Putting Solingen Germany On the Map As The Knife Capital of the World. A Time Honored Monicher Upheld To This Very Day.
